Onyx is a microcrystalline form of quartz. The quartz crystals in onyx are so small that they cannot be seen by the naked eye and the stone appears glassy. This stone is found in many shades including black, red, blue, green, yellow, and white. It is believed that the Greeks and Romans wore Onyx jewelry many centuries ago. The word Onyx is taken from the Greek word ‘Onux’ meaning ‘fingernail’. Intricate copper pendants often have onyx beads as the focal stone. This particular pendant has a naturally red onyx which is cut in the inverted teardrop shape. The stone and setting compliment each other perfectly to create his superb copper pendant.
